Looking for opinions on this 1913 I just Purchased The rim looks squared off and detail is VERY sharp as per your typical diagnostics for attributing a Matte issue (2 of the 3 things to look for ) I just dont have the coin in hand yet to see the 3rd. But, while I wait for it, lets stir some things up *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I am not an expert with old US coins, and their QC however when you are talking about proof coins, would there not be a higher standard for quality? this coins shows mis-alligned dies, which might happen, but I would hope not.

I'm no expert on matte proof Lincolns ,but as sharp as this coin is I'm leaning towards Not a proof only for the fact of the obverse rim disorder at 11:00 to 3:00 .

It has a good chance of being a proof. Regardless, it's a very nice early Lincoln Cent.

Looks like a poor matte copy to me. Pressure of strike was too great causing rim finning TBop noted and is slightly MAD. LIBERTY is too close to rim, on new die would be further into field. Date looks rotated CW to me about 5°, rims on reverse don't seem squared enough. Too many suspicions on this one, hope you have return capabilities.

One way to find out...send it in for Third Party Grading...along with some company to help absorb the fees.
Nice looking Lincoln!

Among other things, I don't like the beard definition in some areas. Suspicious coin.

Well, I purchased the coin as uncirculated from an ebay seller I have the same mind set with the MAD look to it. Either way the coin is SHARP When I have it in hand I should be able to identify whether or not It's a Matte

The die alignment issues seem, to me, to preclude calling it a Proof. I'd be keeping it all the same, simply for the scintillating strike.

Lovely coin with a great strike ...
For all the reasons described above I'm not going for matte proof ... but nonetheless a nice looking coin.

Not a proof, just a strong, MAD business strike. NICE COIN still!
