There are out of my comfort zone, and the price I paid was thus predicated on the possibility that they may not be authentic. They were plucked out of a world coin "cull" bin, so there's no reassuring provenance, except that they were a part of a liquidated older collection (which guarantees exactly zilch).

The first I was thinking might be a follis of Maurice Tiberius, but I'm not finding a match for it. About 32 mm in diameter, with its weight coming in at 14.3 grams.

The other I have even less of a notion as to what it may be, although the motif seems to me overall consistent with coinage issued by the later Eastern Roman Empire. Its irregular diameter varies between 16 and 20 mm, and the weight is a smidgen over 2.5 grams.

Neither exhibits any magnetic property.

Two nice coins. The first one appears to be Anastasius I Sear #19.

#2 is an AETetaryeron on Manjuel I Sear # 1970

Great finds. It's often amazing where nice ancients come from. Two nice rescues.

Thank you, Ron. Your ability to recognize various ancients continues to impress mightily.

That seems to have nailed it, my specimen being of the "epsilon" subtype.

Looking up that issue of Manuel I, my example seems to on the whole conform to the pattern of Sear 1970; the discordant detail is those letters "YH" (or "TH" or "IH"?).
