I love the looks of all of these historic items. Being a collector of glass insulators gives me an interest in RRs anyway.
@GregAlex I also really like the roundhouse pic on the Piitsburgh and WV RR Do. At the end of summer, one of thr insulator collector clubs I belong to holds their annual swap meet in the B&O roundhouse in Martinsburg, WV.

Oh my, I'd like to visit that! Is that part of the B&O Museum?

No, the B&O museum is in Baltimore, MD. There is a small museum at the Martinsburg location. I believe the roundhouse in Baltimore and the one in Martinsburg, WV are the only metal framed roundhouses existing. There has been an ongoing project of restoring the Martinsburg Roundhouse for some time now. The date for next years is up in the air as it might be an NIA (National Insulator Association) Eastern Regional meeting. We are waiting for NIA Board approval. If not, it likely will be in August sometimes. Either way, there is a show calendar on which it will be posted: http://www.insulators.info - scroll down - left - bottom under "Shows and Clubs" heading. It might be awhile until the date is known though.

@nells250 Although I do know a lot of the people posting on those and am good friends with many, no, I am not. Insulator FB pages do show up on my my (now basically my wife's) FB page. My wife let's me know when someone asks for me or asks for help with a Brookfield insulator. Are you on? PM me if you ever want to talk insulators (away from the computer for the next upcoming days) I keep saying I need to spend time on those pages, but at present am undertaking something I said I did not want to do again until I got other things done... working on a possible new insulator reference book. I have been uncovering forgotten Brookfield history by an intense study of their insulator related patents. Its been very eye opening.

Theres no images, but the earlier papers in the NY times archives talk a heckuva lot about bonds and stocks in the RR business.

A contribution. Taken from work on my camera phone so my pic is a little crooked.

That's an interesting one. Does the lack of names/signatures mean that it was never issued? I think that some of those companies went under before they got going. Don't know that for sure, though.

EARLE42 - tried to send you an email but I guess I am not allowed to: I do not actively collect insulators, but my boyfriend and his brother used to. They still have some of the collection. The only one I have is about 1 inch tall, I recently found out it is not antique, but it is awfully cute! I am more of a New England railroading-stuff collector.

Yes, typically stocks and bonds that are unsigned and not filled out would be considered unissued. These are usually the remainders left over when a company goes defunct, merges, or changes its name. There are often many times more surviving unissued certificates than those that were issued and for that reason they are usually cheaper. However, they are also usually in much better condition, since they sat in a vault, bound in a book.
