Yes, I'd put it in my collection. Might not get a problem free blessing from a TPG, but you never know. A few hits and scratches, but no env dam, and not cleaned imo. Have seen worse than that pass TPG inspectors. For the right price it's a keeper. Are you thinking of buying it, or do you own it? Vf35, possibly eeking out a EF40.

I just bought this coin on ebay and felt like I got a fair price ($120), but wanted to know what anyone else thought about the coin.

(Same coins as above. And 'listed' on ebay as shown in blue writing)

I think you did ok. Could probably get youe $ back if you decide to sell it. Post it in the grading forum, and nail down the grade.

Spiked Chin Variety, very popular, I have one representing the Draped Bust Half Cent type coin in my 7070.

I don't like the digs in between HALF and CENT.

Ron Guth: The 1804 Spiked Chin Half Cent is an interesting variety caused when damage occur(r)ed to an obverse die, resulting in a sharp, spike-like projection jutting out from Liberty's chin. The Spiked Chin itself is considered a die state, because examples from the same obverse die are known without the damage. However, the Spiked Chin obverse was used in combination with more than one reverse, so it is also known as a die variety. The Spiked Chin Half Cent is fairly common, but it commands a premium because of its listing as a major variety in most (if not all) price catalogs.

You did fine. To get much above that VF-30, which is what I see, you would have to double what you paid.

It has a few minor problems but nothing indicating that it has ever been cleaned. That alone makes it a great pick.

No bad corrosion, either. Yeah - nice one.

Bogilliams, do you have a picture of the reverse? The spiked chin obv was paired with four different reverse dies, three of which are common, one is rare. And one of the common ones is very popular because it was used for a long time and undergoes a continuous breakdown so it is frequently collected by die stage (about 22 different stages)

The OP coin is the common C-8 variety.

Never mind I see now the last picture is the same as the first coin, just different picture.
