This one is well known, the doubling on this one seems to be prominent on the last 5 on the date 1955... how does this stack up to the notorious DDO variety? Did my best to get a clear picture!!

Unfortunately, it's not a Doubled Die. It's actually severe Die Deterioration Doubling from the Mint overusing the dies. A "Poor Man's Doubled Die" is not a Doubled Die.

Rest in Peace

It's actually one of the most pronounced Poor Mans D/D on that last 5 that I've seen .
Rest in Peace

Makes a good hole filler in those pesky Whitman's that have that spot for the near unobtanium DDO!

"Poor mans D/D"... seems appropriately named#128553; this was a coin roll find so I guess I shouldn't feel too let down... any value to those looking for page fillers as mentioned above? Somewhat hopeful after hearing it's a more pronounced example... what do you guys think?

Not correct using D/D. That would indicate a RPM. Which it is not. It is die wear. The 50's Wheat cent dies were way overused. In a tube of 50 bu 1955 cents, I found 19 of these in the roll from several different dies. Die wear flow in the direction of the rims. To the closest one.
DDO : doubled die obverse
DDR : doubled die reverse
D/D : RPM Re-Punched-Mint mark from Denver.
DDD : Die-Deterioration-Damage to the die. I usually refer to this on the single squeezed dies with the lower profile on the devices. This deterioration usually shows up beyond the devices.

Die wear : I use this term for the multi-hubbed die. To make these it was done with several uses of the hub to create a single die. The die wear shows on the sides of the die that is closer towards the rim. When the die breaks down, then the die wear is on the devices. Unlike the single squeezed dies were DDD shows next to the rim.
