Dang, the mint got their mileage out of that die pair. It almost looks like a Zombucks design..

Here's to the coins that are different,
Coins with an ugly streak,
For when they have grown,
As history has shown,
It's their difference that makes them unique.

Thanks Newbie!

I stole it from this poem:

Kids Who Are Different

Here's to kids who are different,
Kids who don't always get A's,
Kids who have ears
Twice the size of their peers,
And noses that go on for days.

Here's to the kids who are different,
Kids they call crazy or dumb,
Kids who don't fit,
With the guts and the grit,
Who dance to a different drum.

Here's to the kids who are different,
Kids with a mischievous streak,
For when they have grown,
As history has shown,
It's their difference that makes them unique.

Wow! That Nickel is in a horrible VLDS. Past retirement for sure. I can't imagine what the die itself looked like when it got retired before getting grinded down or melted.

Freeqgirl, VLDS stands for Very Late Die State. It's tells what stage the die is in. Basically, the condition of the die itself. This coin here is in a Very Late Die State because of all the die flow lines from wear (the straight streched out lines going outwards), mushy letters, and the huge loss of details. Extreme die wear is very common on Nickels do to the composition of the Nickel and is very rough on the dies. The die flows outward do to all of the high pressure during a ton of strikes. The die is just flat worn out. Hopefully this helps you out a lot and
