1973 is not known for producing errors but after reviewing several sites yesterday I noticed there are some of the 8 doubled types that are very hard to spot and so I tried to use the markers like split serif to help when looking through "typical" non-error cents. Thoughts?

1973 - appears to have a split in serif, most noticeable on 73
Liberty - same as date
GOD - why I posted it rather than pass on it, O & D especially

First, no DDO. there is no splits on date. You will usually see an appreciable size increase in the width of a device and quite often a line issuing from the split junction. LIBERTY is DDD, note direction is toward the outside when noticing the abbraided die around the left edges. GOD is another example of abrasion, this time the dimpling effect.

Might I suggest you stop chasing ghosts, wasting time on searching where there are no known anamolies on a specific area per date/mm. Identify known ones first. Once you perfect your eye, then you can expand. You have to know the real, genuine before you can notice the varieties.

I think of cents like snowflakes, no two are exactly the same and I just sort and/or search whatever comes my way.

Who knows, you may find something new.

Hum?
Interesting post... I read it because I too have a 1973 LMC in question. However, I'm gonna comment about the comments....

Crazybo, that is insightful & very Useful Advise!
"On the flip side of that coin"...ie.... statement.
Maybe the process of "chasing Ghost" or "searching for unknown anomalies" is the process of perfecting ones eye?
***On this side of "perfection", who knows the difference?
Respectfully....

Love this CC site!!

Crazyb0 is correct. When I first started out, I would look at a coin for way too long, and would see things that wasn't there in the first place. It takes some time to get good at this.
