*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

I have searched this Site a ways back and I've seen the indicators on how to identify them so I am thinking I have all large cents here. It's still hard to tell when they are not next to a small date to actually see the difference. So I thought you can hel be this this lot of 8 coins that I CRH'ed over some time. Thanks!

Yes, all 8 are large dates.

* There are many ways to determine large from small, but again, to me, just turn the coin up side down!

The long leg of the 7 on the large date 1970 clearly extends higher (above) than the O next to it! *

FYI: Make sure you also check all of the 1970S Large Dates you find for doubled dies, especially the 1970S 1DDO-001.(Very Valuable!)

Good Luck!

One other diagnostic on the 1970-S Small Date often forgotten is the motto IN GOD WE TRUST and the word LIBERTY are usually very weakly struck as in the one I found earlier this year.

All eight are Large Dates. That new pic that coop posted is fantastic. Also, as John77 mentioned, there are often other identifiers that don't get much attention like weakly struck legends/mottos.

Personally, the leg of the 7 is the easiest way for me to tell. I draw a mental image from the bottom of the 1 to the bottom of the 7. If that line does not extend to the bottom of the 0 but below it, it's a Large Date. If that line also extends to the bottom of the 0, it's a Small Date. All that may be easier to visualize by turning the coin upside down as chuckster suggested. I hope that makes sense.

You and I were thinking on the same wavelength, spruett001... I took a closeup of the one I found and added gridlines to show how the tops of the numbers and the bottoms of the 1, 7, and zero line up.
