Greetings, curious if anyone can tell me about this item.

23.7mm and 2.7g

I apologize if the pictures are not oriented correctly. I am guessing this is some kind of charm or tourist souvenir. But thought I would ask.

Thanks for any feedback.

Looks like a cash coin from Kangzi. These are pretty common and worth less than half a dollar usually.

Correct orientation, scopru. As a rule the character on the left appears alot and is a good indicator to get these the right way up.
Rest in Peace

Thanks! This was in a small bag of items I received as a pre-pre-Christmas present when I got home from work.
Moxking, I bet that can be addicting. I will put that on the future interest list since there are a couple of other areas I am delving into right now.

I have a copy of Schjoth to help me out.
YES ! They are addictive when you can fairly easily identify them. I have and example from most Emperors and Dynasties - about 200 of them, but no really rare ones. They are all now in 2x2's, fully written up.

However. I do have at least one example in copper or bronze (can't tell the difference), brass, zinc and iron.

The great bulk of them in my collection came from a huge stash in a dealer' junk box about 35 years ago, for 20 cents each.
I tried to pick as many different variations as I could, without having any idea of how to identify them, at the time.
My copy of Schjoth came later, and I solved most of the mystery I had about them.

And YES ! - ALL of my Cash are Oriented perfectly - that's where they all come from !

Cash are probably the cheapest ancient coins you can get. They were made by the millions and there area a lot of hoards.
North Sung Dynasty 800 or more years ago can be had in bulk for well under 50 cents, and they are usually in quite decent shape.
