Yeah I do CelticKnot. You can see the displaced metal that a drill bit leaves behind sometimes.

Judging by the lack of damage to the obverse of the coin I would venture to say that this is not a counter stamp but a hobo style design. 1858 Flying Eagle cent...

Torn between the initial "Wow, that's neat!", and then, "But it's a Flying Eagle!". Similar feeling as when I see the sometimes beautifully-done "love tokens" using 19th century gold coins...

Thanks Earl and hokiefan. I felt the same way. In the end I figured that I didn't have any FECs at all in my collection so I bid and pulled the trigger.

Found a large lot of counter stamped LMCs on ebay. Unfortunately they were all duplicates of counter stamps I already had. Bummer. Had hopes of at least a couple of new ones. Oh well... Is what it is.
