I see the resemblance to the skate key idea, but I am in the rat/mouse camp As to Littleton, I totally agree chafemasterj knows what he is collecting. But I also know what Coinfrog is ribbiting as well. As an unsuspecting kid I was a Littleton victim back in the early 70s. The prices they charged for the stuff they sold (and currently sell) is ridiculous. They have always been preying on the newbies (continues to this day). BUT...this is also why I like this thread. I like to see that some of the Littleton stuff is actually "worth" something now in the aspect that these are now a collectable item, and this thread has given me a lot of fun to watch, anticipate and comment with friends about. I enjoy this thread also in that it is the most comprehensive listing of counterstamped coins I personally have seen on the internet and therefore is a great reference! I actually have a shortcut on my keyboard now for sending people here to find out what they have when answering on the other forum I am on! I think our good friend Chafemasterj needs a new title: The Counterstamp King That can be the name he write his collector's guide under  How much squash could a Sasquatch squash if a Sasquatch would squash squash? Good points here!
The skate key I remember from a hundred years ago looked like a large butterfly wingnut with a 4-sided socket attached.

I remember using one of these when very young. Admittedly though we knew the skates were very old even for back then. Funny, found an image I think is the exact skate! They key is from a different picture, but looks like what I remember the key looked like. I also remember it seemed impossible to get the right tension on the front of the skate for sneakers to stay in them. Likely meant for leather soled shoes. No bearing in the wheels! I had skates like that as a kid. It was surprising how tiny a piece of gravel would cause a wheel to lock up. And then came the merthiolate. "Blow! Blow!"
