I picked these us recently as gifts for my niece and daughter who are both interested in collecting. My daughter has expressed an interest in Ancients specifically!

I was wondering if you folk had any interesting facts on these before I send them on?

Just some clarification on the years.

If you flip the first picture upside-down, you can see the date of 1223 written on the coin. That is a frozen date on the coin—the date Mahmud II came into power. To determine the year this coin was struck, you need to look at the regnal year, which is at the top of the legend on the first side. In this case, it is a 32, meaning the coin was struck on the 32nd year of Mahmud II's reign. And 1223/32 would be around 1839 in the Gregorian calendar.

The second coin, on the other hand, was made during Abdülmecid I's reign. The date written on it would be 1255/3, meaning around 1841 in the Gregorian calendar.

Thank you for the training Joseph! Sounds like they have a similar system to what the Japanese use for dates.

It will be interesting to tie them to specific rulers.
