Poll Question
First off, Merry Christmas! Second, I am looking to get a gold coin to add to my collection. Was wondering peoples thoughts on a BU coin at something other than MS70 or get an MS70 version?

When historically important vintage gold, TPG if you so desire, is compared to recent issues that will never see circulation, I'm afraid I'm always going to stay with the older issues.

I think the extra money for the better grade id =s worth the investment. If you ever need to get out, your market is greater at MS70.

I'm with TheBurnz on this one, to a point. The premium for the 70 is a bit higher than I like, but 70s do tend to hold their value. However, if most of the population is 70, there shouldn't be that much of a premium -- the premium is greater if there are fewer 70s compared to 69s. If this is a brand new release, you won't know the spread yet. If you have money to burn (or melt), it can be worth it.
Additionally, this being a new release, you can't know if there's a contaminant in the slab that will eventually lead to spotting. There's nothing you can do about that but wait and store it properly. Spotting will turn a 70 into essentially bullion, losing any 70-related premium.
In a perfect world, I'd get the 70. Weighing the risks is up to you.

If those were my only options, I would rather go with the MS-69 over the MS-70. With today's minting processes, there is nothing really special with a 70 when it is not uncommon for over half of those submitted to grade 70. Even experienced collectors can have some difficulty telling the difference between the 2 grades so you are not really gaining any noticeable improvement in eye appeal. I would rather save the $400 and spend it on something else. Perhaps that could be another coin or some other activity or interest.

Don't look at coins as an investment. Don't look at gold and silver as investments as well. Try and enjoy this hobby

I voted MS69.,. if that gold coin gets any copper spots, brown spots or any ugly toning,,,, it will LOSE its 70 degree and the value will drop to spot UNLESS the mintage numbers are on your side, which you will not know.
get the ms69.... low risk and graded, so someone will pay a premium for it being in a slab.

The 69 would certainly be a safer bet. It's all about the coin and not the label, and the difference between a 69 and 70 is usually minor if anything.
As an investment, I'd put my money into something classic near spot gold pricing.

With those two choices - I would go with the MS69.

Thanks, all. I will look at older ones or get the 69 ER version. I did find a place I can spend my Ethereum that I mine. Takes a while to build up since I don't mine a lot, but usually, I purchase the 10oz Silver bars with it. I'll save up and purchase one of these: https://veldtgold.com/product/20-li...ouble-eagle/
