I met a guy in Canada who made these, and I now have a number. They are very time consuming to make-the guy really only makes minimum wage. Needs a CNC machine.

It is very interesting to see what a craftsman can do when given the opportunity. Very nice!

Spence, I will dig up a few of my puzzle coins-I just checked the thread again.

As requested by Spence, here is another puzzle: A 1922 Peace dollar in pieces. Not as puzzling, as the eagle is a single piece (not peace). I left it in the holder, as I am terrified of dropping it on the floor and losing a piece of my mind.

@oriole, that is a neat one--I like how the puzzle-maker incorporated some of the coin's details into the shape of the cut pieces.

Here is another one. An 1857 Upper Canada One Penny. They are not usually made in Copper. In case you are wondering, the uncut piece probably retailed for about $5.

A CNC machine is not needed to make these. You need the very finest (thinnest) jeweller's saw blades, fix the coin solidly on a piece of wood with something like wax, saw away for several hours, then remove the pieces from the substrate.
This is what I read, anyhow.
