I received a small display frame for Christmas. Of course, first thought was to put a coin in there. Problem was, will it damage the coin (material)? So, it had to be something that I wasn't overly concerned about toning. I decided to put examples of the first year issues of modern dollars in the frame. Here it is: "Nummi rari mira sunt, si sumptus ferre potes." - Christophorus filius Scotiae

Thanks scopru. It will look good in the midst of all the mountains of clutter on my desk at work.

Lookin' good! By the way, how does the frame hold the coin? Does it work like a giant 2x2?

It may or may not be a damaging plastic. Smell funny? Maybe since two f the three are "failed" US coinage, you need to put a couple other failed series in there, FE's come to mind, Shield nickels another. Do like the display no matter what is in there.

A wise choice for a test. No great loss if they do tone strangely, but it won't take that long to notice if they do. I still doubt you'll keep your favorite gold in a similar holder on top of your desk. Where do you work?

Quote: .By the way, how does the frame hold the coin? Does it work like a giant 2x2? The items are sandwiched between two thin sheets of some sort of plastic like a 2x2. I didn't notice any odor. But, since I didn't know the material not taking a chance. No gold or silver going in, so I will tell you where I work... Inside. Thanks for the comments everyone.

Thanks guys. I tried putting the Ike at the top, but it was a little out of balance.
I work in a good place with decent people. Only thing taken is a drink and a sandwich once in a while. I guess we all get hungry now and then.

It is amazing how many inanimate objects "find life" at work.

It's a silicone sheet, with the two halves of the frame held together with magnets. I ended up using capsules for mine, because Half Dimes and such are too thin to be held in place. So I can't speak to the long term nature. However it's silicone which should be inert.
