No Silver dollars were made anywhere near 1963. Got any pics of it?

There were several silver rounds and various other non-governmental issued silver dollar sized "coin" imitations issued at various anniversaries of his death. I also believe some minor foreign countries issued some also. Does it say "United States of America","liberty" or the word "Dollar". You didn't mention if you thought it was an actual US Dollar, or if you didn't know. If you can't take a photo, what words are on both sides of the "coin". Does it look like the JFK half dollar head?

I actually don't have it. My friend was over and we started looking on the net about it. He is going back to his house to see.
I will let you know.

there were no United States Mint minted John F Kennedy Silver Dollars anyway, there were half dollars minted with him on it starting in 1964 but 1963 it was Franklin who was on the Half Dollar coins

That was not made in 1961, rather it's identifying the date in which he was inaugurated (01/20/1961) and I believe that was distributed with some overpriced proof coin series that you could buy through the mail. I may even have one of those at home. It's gold plated, but I don't remember what metal it was made of.

That JFK metal is the 1st metal I got form the mint. so you can just guess that I am an old time collector It most likely a Franklin Mint coin 14kt over 975 Silver?

There was discussion in Congress in 1963 about making a Kennedy Silver Dollar. It didn't go too far, and the Half Dollar was chosen instead. I assume no dollar patterns were ever produced, but I bet some "fantasy" pieces were produced privately. Here's a link to some info about the plan: http://www.usmint.gov/historianscor...gget08-12-07

Production of the Kennedy half dollar began in December 1963, although all of the coins produced in '63 were dated 1964.
