This is by far the most impressive that I have seen in person. I acquired this in change today from Sonic! What you guys think? Am I right to call this a die gouge?

That actually looks more like a giant long Die Crack. We like to call these Die Cracks "Spiked Head".

Wow I had no idea, is it worth keeping? Any value added to it? Thanks for your help :)

Yes, it is definitely worth keeping. It has some value, not a lot, but some. Maybe 4 dollars? It really depends on how much the buyer will pay for the coin. Collectors like me would probably be more interested in this stuff and would pay a little more for it.

How about a couple of pictures from different angles?
It's not a die crack, it goes over the edge of the coin.

Need a few more pix, both sides especially the reverse opposite this anomaly. It may be a very large crack or what is called a "corrosion ridge" since this is a clad type quarter. A corrosion ridge is a cladding problem, some foreign material under the cladding there. But do get a good pix of the rim by this.

Thank you sooooooo much for your input:). I have a small collection of crazy looking coins. One is a dime that looks like it is just scratched all to heck. I posted it on here a few months back but could get a real detailed pic. All the so called scratches are raised and odd looking, I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to name him lol.
One of these days I'll hunt ya down if I decide to get rid of this "spiked head".very informative, again, thank you!

It's a Die Crack as you can see it start out on the rim.

It's tough to say. It has similarities to a die crack. The only problems are how thick and relatively straight it is.

This is a corrosion ridge. Notice how it does transverse the fields and devices PLUS GOES OVER THE RIM. OP has a corrosion rim coin. Use link in my previous post!

I am more inclined to think that it is a die gouge, rather than a die crack.

Die cracks don't necessarily have to meet with the edge.
Concentric arc die cracks can be one of many other types of cracking.

I cannot dismiss the possibility of a corrosion ridge, but much less possible with a CuNi clad copper core Quarter, than with a Cu clad zinc core Cent.

An edge on picture could help to give more of a clue, and add more weight to the possibility of a die crack.
