Wouldn't it be incuse if it were struck through something ? Looks like a heavy/deep die crack to me, which would explain the crack continuing over through the rim.

It looks die crack aka spike head ,but looks PMD too pics are hard too tell ,take it to a dealer ('s)near you or a show ,someone to see it in hand .good luck

This has turned out to be quite an interesting topic
I am glad I took a look at my change before I made it to a vending machine
What I'm think is pretty cool about it it how straightit is...

I think I'd agree with those considering it to be a die crack, but the straight arrow makes that guess hard to defend.

Then again it could be PMD. Looks to me like something sharp could have hit it from the bottom. Looks like there is an incuse mark at each end of the "ridge" ?
