They-Exist-!--2009-Nickels

Hi,
I went to the bank yesterday & while I was there, picked a couple of nickel rolls to see what I could find. Lo & behold, out popped 2 of these. As you can see, It is been well circulated & beaten up a bit, but they exist. For a while, I thought it had to be a conspiracy about them being a scarce coin. like wow!

They do seem to be challenging to come by in circulation. I have nearly a roll of them from my CRH efforts ... nearly all Philly mint as I live in Maryland.

Despite their relative scarcity to find in the wild ... they are not near the top of the listing of lowest mintage Jefferson.

I posted a thread a few years back (2011 maybe?) where I shared the relative mintage of all coins (up the then) in the Jefferson series 1938 to date.

The 2009-P Jefferson checks in as #34, while the 2009-D Jefferson checked in at #40.

Still ... a nice find in the wild.

to the madhouse!

I'll find a 2009D usually in a box, sometimes two but never more. I have found 5-2009Ps in roughly 50,000 searched.(stopped counting early this year). Those 2009P were at least over a year ago, none this year. Live in central MO.

They can be challenging to come by indeed, but not impossible.

I've saved every 2009 nickel I've obtained since they were minted. I have 4 (3D's, 1 P). That includes the 2 examples in my album.

The last show I attended, there was a guy selling sets of two OBW rolls (P/D) for $30! I know they're lower mintage, but jeepers...

I've yet to find one in rolls or circulation. I only have those in my 2009 Mint sets.
