Good Evening,
I was wondering what the best dates to keep an eye out for when in regards to a coin being minted on the wrong planchett? I'm asking in regards to Lincoln cents. I know that 1943-44 and 1983 are good years to look for. Speaking of years, I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years Eve and New Year's Day.

If you're thinking of material changes, steel/bronze or the bronze/copper plated zinc, that's it. No other transitions were made materially. Design changes and boo-boo die mismatches are some of the other anamolies. Been lookin' my whole life for that illusive 1959 Wheat back penny...

When you said wrong planchet LMC< I thought maybe you meant like a Wheat cent from the 50s minted on a dime planchet, something like that. Those have always been my favorite ones to drool over, just never been able to spend that much on one :D

As far as transitional planchet errors, you have it covered. Other off-planchet errors (like a cent struck on a dime planchet) are completely random as far as I know and there aren't specific dates to look for.

One more coin you should look for is the 1982 D Small Date Lincoln Cent that was struck on a Copper planchet (not common to find). Only one example has been found.

Planchet errors most commonly occur when the Mint is processing orders from multiple countries, for example I have seen an Australian Florin struck on an American wartime nickel planchet, from the SF Mint.

Tough to find. I'm afraid I wouldn't have the patience for searching for the near impossible find.

Actually 1943 is probably the most common year for cents struck on dime planchets. They were hard to detect because the color was so similar, and the weights are also very close. So more "silver cents" got out that year than normal.

Yep, only one - odds aren't very good for finding another. I did see someone on here said Heritage is gonna have a copper 43-D Lincoln Cent coming up
