This coin weighs 3.31 g and has a diameter of 23 mm. It is slightly scyphate (cup-shaped, concave), with the convex surface rather worn. The only description I have is "Celtic silver stater." If you can provide any more info (region, ruler, approx. dates) it will be greatly appreciated.

It's a coin of the Durotriges, in southern Britain, I think 1st century BC/AD, but before Claudius's campaigns. Supposedly, the top picture (reverse) is supposed to be a horse, and the bottom picture is supposed to be a portrait of Apollo, only showing the hair and wreath.

Thank you so much, Finn235. I'm very impressed with your knowledge of these coins.

They made these in two versions, one a debased metal (the more common) and before that in silver (which due to some unrest somewhere or other became hard for them to aquire) The silver coins are rarer than the debased ones.

The dates supplied with the one I bought said 45 BC - 58 AD

If you flip that image over, it will be the right way up.

You can make out:
- legs: the straight lines are the 4 legs of a horse (well, 3 in your case, the first one is only just visible on the left once flipped)
- body: the two curves/crescents in the middle
- neck: the angled line to the left pointing north-west
- plus many pellets/dots above the horse

Hope that helps...

Just needs rotating 90 degrees clockwise.
