Well since we are currently having a blizzard here in NY, I thought I might as well take this opportunity to post. I've been preoccupied with college applications so I haven't been on lately. I applied to numerous engineering schools including Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania and Carnegie Mellon. Hopefully I will get into one of them! Anyway, I must have been a good boy this year because I got a lot of great gifts! My parents are separated so I go back and forth between two homes. The one plus to this is I get TWICE as many gifts! The big item this year was a microscope!! !! Now I can finally see all the errors that may or may not exist! It takes photos but I am still learning how to use that function. It's amazing what coins look like under 40x and 60x magnification. I also received the Cherry Pickers Guide Volume 2! I just need to get my hands on the first volume now! 2018 is off to a good start because on New Year's Day, using my microscope and book, I discovered my first proof variety coin!! It was already in my collection unattributed! I will make a new thread on the error coin page about that find Last year was a blast for me with coins I'm looking forward to all the great coins I will find this year Edit: Oh Jeeze I fogot to mention the safe box I got to hold the few expensive coins I have. It's water and fire proof but just to be safe I put some of those silica gel packets in there. I hope the Community had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Edited by Buckwill311 01/04/2018 7:48 pm

Great gifts, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun bouncing between the two identifying "all the errors that may or may not exist!"

Wonderful presents. You do realize that the microscope is going to become a serious addiction as you scan every coin you get your hands on.

Whoa, now that is one heckuva rig you have there! Lighting will be your nemisis tho, get the Janscos (2) for that and you'll have eceptonal pix! Just don't turn into one of those "get rich quick wackos" Who drink the ID-10-Tea of cheesy-packing!

Nice present. What kind is it? If it doesn't have an adjustable light source, yes, get the Jansco lamps like Crazyb0 stated.

It a 10X-20X-30X-60X Stereo Microscope with USB Camera I'm thinking it's a ST-30-2L it doesn't actually say it I just took a picture with the coin that I want to show you guys, the pictures don't come out too well and they are all zoomed in, it seems I'll have to get a Barlow lens for the objective
Yeah it has A light source it's right next to the coarse adjustment knob
I wasn't expecting to get this for Christmas all I had asked for was a USB microscope so I could take better pictures of my coins since I can't zoom out with the camera I'm kind of still stuck in the same place with sucky photos :P

Do you have all the right software downloaded and is it compatible with the system you are running? I originally had a Celestron that took horrible pictures then read where it wasn't compatible with Windows 7

I think I do Mark1959 the software was on a disc that came with the microscope. It's not that the pictures are bad it's that I can't zoom out and get one of the whole coin.

@buckjwill311, great pick-ups. I look forward to seeing some pics once you have the bugs worked out with this new system!
