1973 D Lincoln Memorial Cent With Recurring Die Subsidence Error CRH Find

Errers and Varietys Bedrock of the Community United States 74533 Posts	Posted 01/05/2018 7:11 pm I found this in a circulated bank roll of U.S. Pennies from a bank box. Yes, I know this has been brought up many times, but I want to post it because it's the first time I've found this. Still cool though. You can see how badly the die steel sank in in the 2nd Memorial Bay Column and near the steps. I find it very interesting and plan to keep it. I use a Plugable USB 2.0 Digital Microscope for pictures. This Die Subsidence error is a known abnormality on the 1973 D LMC's. Up to 8 working dies have been affected by this Recurring Die Subsidence error. I have found a couple from different years that are even more pronounced than most of the 1973-D's I have. It took a while to figure out exactly what it was, and it's still somewhat of a mystery how it happens. Report this Post to the Staff

Hopefully one day, it will be solved, but I highly doubt it will be. I bought 3 OBW Bu rolls of 1973 D's in hopes to find this error as I want one in better shape for my collection. Errers and Varietys Bedrock of the Community United States 74533 Posts	Posted 01/08/2018 11:24 pm I'm going to bring this thread back again because I have bought OBW BU rolls from 1973 D (coins are in Mint State condition) on ebay and found 6 of the Recurring Die Subsidence error (AKA Sunken Die) with different stages of progression. I will share it here because I'm not sure if it's okay to make another thread on this error with the different stages of progression. To let you know, all 6 of the reverse pictures are from different LMC's that I found in the roll. I was very happy and excited finding these in MS BU condition!
