I've been looking through old newspapers in hopes of finding advertisements or for sale postings from throughout the 19th and 20th century. Unfortunately for me, the results are few and far between. So, my question arises: Do any forum members have or know of a good place to find old pricing records. (For context, I am using these as examples to gauge inflation, to then put in a school project)

You may want to try contacting the Chicago Tribune Newspaper. They used to have an office in the downtown area where they had old newspapers for looking at and for sale. Probably gone now but they should be able to help you find how to get some old newspapers.
Rest in Peace

I have been collecting coins for over 50 years.

I bought my first gold coin in 1962, but I don't have a receipt for that. (1872 half sovereign, Sydney Mint),
However, I do have all of the documentation for a Roman gold coin I purchase from Spinks in London in 1978, so I could prove purchase provenance.

Assessing inflation rate factors from purchase to sell dates, are critical in determining the true current value of anything, including coins.
Even tax assessments have to take this into account in figuring how much tax you should pay.

The Bureau of Statistics (or whatever they happen to call themselves), in your own Country keep records of inflation rates over specific spans of time.

Old coin magazines would be a great source for numismatic related advertisements and price lists.

This site compiles documents with historical prices in the U.S. going back to the 18th century.
