I got a run of ten sequential $10 bills, series 2013.

happened to notice that the reverse plate numbers were different. This strikes me as odd. Is it? Most are 55, one is 53 and one is 54.

Front plates are all the same...

I don't seriously collect paper currency, more of a coin guy, so this is a bit out of my norm...but something "different" always catches my attention.

thanks!

I do not believe it to be unusual.

Cool, thanks. I appreciate the doublecheck, though must admit a bit of disappointment!

I found quote a bit about the front plate and how that works, but the rear plates... rear plates it's all about mules, and "rear plate- (not pictured)"

Coinfrog, SteveInTampa,

I know you guys probably know more about the BEP printing process than me , so how do you think the sheets in a stack get intermingled back plate numbers?

I guess it's due to replacement sheets for "bad" sheets, but I would think that would lead to just two different back plate numbers in a stack, not three as was described by SecretArgentMan.

Are the face plate numbers or position numbers the same?

The plate position numbers have to be the same, as each note in the stack must be printed from the same plate position in order for the notes to be consecutively numbered.

The face plate number can be different, just like the back plate number. I don't personally have an example of this but here's an ebay listing that shows 2 consecutive notes with different face plate numbers. These 2 notes also happen to have different back plate numbers as well.

My question was for the OP. I am trying to clarify of he knows the difference between the position number and the plate number.
