All Lincoln cents are considered Modern coins, so I move your thread to the proper section

That is very much a natural color "toning" if you want to call it that. I call it acidic corrosion which will for all practical purposes give it a details grade as "altered color". This doesn't mean on purpose but in how it was stored. It was most likely in a very old coin board of the 30's/40's. These kept air and other direct elements from the rim and back. The front was exposed to air, moisture, sunlight and most likely cigar smoke, in a humid climate. Ate that sucker right up. It will grade as Uncirculated (MS60 something low) Altered Color(details)

Appears to be an end roll toner or album toned, probably the former. Very nice looking coin with market acceptable toning.

63 red/brown. The toning is absolutely natural and this color progression CAN NOT be imitated.

Still not a TPG submission worthy coin but a truly lovely example.

Do not make any attempt to chemically change it with cleaning of ANY kind, including no to acetone. Get a self seal air tight 2x2 or similar air tight product to keep it safe.

Agree 100%! I have actually hurt toners by using acetone and xylene. They are usually best left alone. It's not worth the risk of jeopardizing the color or other original attributes.
