I will be quite happy to add this to my 12 Caesar's collection. It is a denarius of Vespasian minted in Tarraco. The new RIC II, 1 lists this as R3-only one known ( in the Barcelona collection). I noticed that another collector also has one in his FAC gallery. I love the style of the portrait. To me this looks nothing like the Rome mint Pax seated examples.

It should be noted that in RIC II, 1. the attribution of this coin to Tarraco is tentative. There is much variation in the early portraits of Vespasian. However, as has also been pointed out to me, my coin and the RIC plate coin appear to be the work of the same engraver.

Please feel free to post your coins of Vespasian or anything related.

Vespasianus, 69-79.Denar 69/70, Tarraco (Tarragona). Kopf / Pax mit Zweig und Caduceus auf Thron. RIC II/1, 1312 3.41 g.Äußerst selten Sehr schön - vorzüglich

Well done, Andrew. Congrats on picking up a rarity. Definitely not the Vespasian likeness I'm used to seeing.

This denarius of Vespasian was one of my first ancient coins. I picked it up a good ten or twenty years after it was minted.

I have it attributed as Vagi 904, but not 100% sure on the RIC attribution (maybe 29?).

@Spence I just checked RIC II and yep it sure looks like RIC 29. If my coin was the product of the Rome mint , it would also be RIC 29. Th only difference between these 2 that I can spot is the mint. For me, the bust style is the giveaway.
