Hey guys I'm new to coin collecting. I came across this 1985 penny that appears to have an error on the back. Is this anything special?

to the forum!

Since 1982, Lincoln cents have been made of Zinc planchets plated with Copper.

It looks like the Zinc beneath the Copper plating has started to degrade, leaving a raised area of Copper.

@MS, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @CWB, that your coin has begun to corrode from exposure of the zinc core. The raised section is most likely from this process, but a close-up photo (straight on, well lit, in focus, and well-cropped) would let us confirm that it isn't something else.
