US customs has made a point of combatting counterfeit items from certain manufacturers. I was just wondering why I've never heard about any attempts in the coin area.
They have, most in brand name things where the fakes are a big threat to the viability of a brand. The other consumer good fakes dwarf numismatic ones in terms of value.
Really though the biggest problem is they would have to have coin experts on the staff that opened every coin package to check it. It's impractical and too expensive for them to do that or to send every coin import to PCGS first. Honestly about the only practical way to stop them would be to just ban all coins entirely which I don't think anyone wants that

If there were counterfeit $20s coming from these places I imagine Customs would be all over it. Smaller target market for fake Morgans but the idea is the same.
Not really for collector coins vs bills. You are right that fake bills do get the vast majority of the attention, but that's because they're used in commerce. Fake collector coins are no threat to the day to day economics of the country where as enough fake bills could cause a loss of confidence in them.
