This was yesterday's pocket change! The S mint mark stood out right away at first glance it resembled more a figure 8 than the letter S... and the mark looks thicker in certain areas? I bow to the experts of the forum to identify any errors or variations here? (Again, my apologies for the inadequate camera work)
There were two S mint mark styles used on the 1974 S mint cents. The one you have is MMS-009. That is the way they look. The mint mark punch itself is doubled and gives that wider look to the S.
