I read the date as 42 Meiji - circa 1909.

I'd generously call the condition at the bottom end of the VF range, and I'm sure there are others who'll say F at best.

Hello, it is Meiji 24, or AD 1891.

The Japanese script on the coin is read right to left, even though the English one is read left to right.

Japanese-10-Sen..date?

The date reads from right to left: (meiji era) [2] [10] [4] [year].

Here, the "10" serves as a multiplier for the number before it.

n.b. not sure how the "meiji era" characters read nor its literal meaning.
