Authentic, strong EF-40 or better, likely an old cleaning at some point. Looks appealing in these pics but close-up pics of the surfaces would be helpful.

au50 with nice unmarked surfaces, but looks cleaned with no luster.

Since you have the opportunity to purchase and it isn't yours, I'll give you my honest opinion. The coin has great detail but it doesn't look like it has original surfaces and was likely dipped at some point. It also hasn't been graded by a third party grading company which raises my antennae. When I look to buy a coin I also like to consider whether the coin is above average, average, or below average for it's respective grade and whether it would pass CAC certification. In my opinion, I don't think this coin would pass CAC so I would pass on it myself. Even if it's an unbelievable offer you're buying a coin that likely has issues and it's not worth the money nor effort for problem coins, especially, for this particular series where there are plenty of problem free coins available. My 2¢ piece worth.

I'd rather save my money and wait to get something nice than bother with coins with problems. I'm not being arrogant or rude about it either. I'm just trying to educate collectors so they don't spend too much on coins that they will have trouble selling or finding out way down the line that their collection isn't as nice as they thought. That isn't good for the hobby. just make sure you buy coins for the right price is all.

 with Chester. Rub wise it's strong EF. But those surfaces look cleaned beyond market acceptable. I buy my coins much like your CAC requirement. I only buy coins I absolutely love. Ones ill be proud to own for many years. 99% of the "bargains" are at cheaper prices for a reason.

I agree, it's better to spend more on a good, problem-free coin than spend less on a problem coin, especially common date coins like this one.
