Kind of piggy backing off OneMoreRoll's Topic.

If you had a chance to purchase this lot of coins what would you offer? Nothing spectacular but a lot in quantity

28x 40% Kennedy halves
1x 1953 Franklin half
1x 1964 Dime
1x 1961 Quarter

3 coin War Nickel Set
5 no date Buffalo's
3x wheat pennies (46, 53, 58)

2x 1979
1x 1982

1x 1997

Misc
1x 1972 Royal Canadian Set
1x Unidentified Apollo Commemorative coin

I have never dealt in Proof sets or uncirculated sets before, so I would like some of your opinions on actual resale value of this lot.

My intentions would be to try to make a reasonable profit from selling most of it. I offered to sell on consignment for this person, but they want to "get rid" of the whole lot outright. So I am considering buying and selling most of it.

Thanks for any and all opinions. I am assuming the only mint set that is silver is the obvious 1964. Also I am assuming that all the raw coins are circulated, maybe G to F.

Just for a starting point I was thinking about $225 - $250 do you guys think that this offer is too low?

Just a comment: If the 1972 and 1973 unc Ikes are in blue envelope mint packages then they're 40% silver. If the 1972 has an S mint mark it's definitely silver; if the 1973 has an S mint mark it's either a silver unc, silver proof or clad proof. If no mint mark or D, it's definitely not silver.

I just got through buying sets of Proof coins, and I paid 205 for the 64 - 92 proof sets (SMS sets included). The 93 - 98 sets are the pricier ones (i.e. 12 - 20 each)

I just priced out the UNC sets today, and I was looking at about 195 for the 68 - 89 sets. This is all full coin shop cost, the bid is probably a little less.

If you are planning on selling them at the "retail" level or ebay, you could then pay more but you would have to sit on the money longer to make it all back.

So, with that being said if you want to go to a coin shop and make some money, I would pay about 200 - 225 as this is all very common stuff and the shop would likely low ball you. If you wanted to sell it at "retail" you could probably get away with paying somewhere between 250 - 275 and make a little money.

Hope this helps!!

Overall, my take is if you are planning on turning over to a coin shop for a quic profit and thus be done with it, I would say you would need to offer

I know nothing of the proof or sets.

I wasy try to buy common silver coins at 9-10x face. Silver has jumped though so 11-12x might be the going price now. I haven't tried in a few weeks.

I usually count the 40% halves as 20 cents and War Nickels as 7 cents.

so

1x 1964 Kennedy half
28x 40% Kennedy halves
1x 1953 Franklin half
1x 1964 Dime
1x 1961 Quarter
1x 1948 Quarter
3 coin War Nickel Set

1.60 x 11= $17.60
3x12x.07x11= $27.72
28x.20x11=$61.60

so $107ish.

Those War Nickels are hard to get rid of though. They are hard to melt they say.
