I'll admit to not knowing too much about this, other than it's likely pre-confederstion, probably traded as a halfpenny, and that there are numerous varieties of varying scarcity. Colligo ergo sum

Lucky. I remembered the "fisheries" side of the token.

This token is identified by Charlton's as PE-5, which encompasses PE-5A, PE-5B1, and PE-5B2. PE-5A has a Clevis reverse and medal die-axis. PE-5B has a Hook reverse, and PE-5B1 has a Medal die-axis, while PE-5B2 has a Coinage die-axis.
Of the PE-5A grouping, Dr. Courteau recognizes 5 different sub-varieties (4-8 inclusive). To wit: 4). The tail of the fish is weak, the outline is not well defined (small tail). The Clevis of the plough is not parallel to the crossbar (the upper is nearer than the lower). 5). Same as number 4, but the tail of the codfish is heavier (large tail). 6). Small tail; The Clevis is parallel to the crossbar. 7). Small tail; Upper section of the Clevis is nearer the crossbar than the lower, Ring ends within the Clevis. 8). Small tail; Second row of dashes or bones from backbone is lacking. S, CC, and E of SUCCESS are weak. Reverse, as #7.
Of the 5B groupings, Dr. Courteau identifies 4 different sub-varieties (9-12 inclusive). To wit: 9). Large tail; In some cases the clasp fastening coulter on ploughbeam does not shew. From straight and upset dies. 10). Large tail; Obverse as #9. 11). Small tail; as #4; Reverse as #9. 12). Small tail, as #8; Reverse as #9.
Your token is of a lower grade having sufficient environmental damage (corrosion) thus making positive identification questionable.

Very interesting. The two sides of my specimen are in medal alignment, and it obviously has the hook reverse. It also exhibits the weak S, CC, & E in SUCCESS on the obverse that's associated with one of the clevis reverse varieties. Not quite sure where that puts it.

In this condition, ambiguity reigns. Courteau 12 is the same as obverse 8 of which the S,CC, and E are not fully struck, AND the bones of the second row are lacking. The bones appear present. Possibly the letters are badly worn. I will not hazard a definitive conclusion.
