Only $25.00 + $5.00 S&H if you give Stacks/Bowers a call quick. I ordered my copy today and they asked if I'd like to have QDB sign it. So that is an option too at no charge.

Here is the E-Sylum article about it;

BOOK OFFER: U.S. LIBERTY HEAD DOUBLE EAGLES

CoinWeek published an article recently by Q. David Bowers, co-founder of Stack's Bowers Galleries and numismatic director of Whitman Publishing LLC. In it, Dave has a discount offer on his book on the Liberty Head Double Eagles. Be sure to read the complete article online for Dave's interesting commentary on the collecting of these coins. with permission, we're excerpting the part about his book offer. -Editor

I found that we have in storage a small number of copies of my book, U.S. Liberty Head Double Eagles: The Golden Age of Coinage, that I wrote a few years ago. It is hardbound, has 376 pages, and is fully color illustrated. I wrote this in coordination with Robert Galiette, whose magnificent collection we sold at auction.

Each double eagle, year by year, is discussed in detail, accompanied by an expanded panorama of life in America at the time. You'll read about the Gold Rush in California, the "Pikes Peak or Bust" excitement of the late 1850s, the financial turmoil of the Civil War, the gold strikes in Cripple Creek and the Klondike, and more, plus social and political events of the time. I guarantee it will be a "good read" or, as the New York Times likes to say, a "page turner" (not quite sure what that means, but it is favorable).

The list price of this book $49.95. I offer you one (limit: just one) for $25 plus $5 shipping to U.S. addresses. This offer is subject to availability, for once all are gone, that will be it.

To order: Call our Wolfeboro office at 866-811-1804 to purchase using your credit card. Or, you can send a check for $30 made out to Stack's Bowers Galleries to SBG/Book Department, PO Box 1804, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

A signed copy of that book is the closest I'm gonna get to a double eagle for a while, if ever! Maybe I'll call tomorrow.

@westcoin: Thanks for the heads up! I placed my order!

It sounds like the book offers a terrific look into American history during a very important time as well as exploring a great series of US coinage. Bowers always does a great job with his books - he's among the very best numismatic authors in our hobby. I'm looking forward to getting my copy!

Yep QDB is a great author! I have most of his books, and nearly all of his early newsletters in my collection, this book sounded great to me, even though I don't really collect Double Eagles due to the cost and my poorness! LOL, I have owned quite a few over the years and some really nice ones too, I love the history of gold, especially the mining history in Colorado and California. Looking forward to getting this one, last book I really enjoyed of his was the Augustus Sage civil war era collecting book, didn't think his new "More adventures with Rare Coins" was anywhere near as good as the first "Adventures in Rare Coins" (My favorite book of his. I still need to get the "California Gold Rush History - USS Central" Book but at around $200 it's not on my short list at the moment. I'd really like that $1000 special edition copy though. I know there is one on ebay right now.

I've met the author many times at shows - a true gentleman. Never read anything by him that I didn't just gobble up.

My book arrived yesterday (Tuesday). My initial reaction is that it appears - as expected - to be another great volume from Bowers. I'm looking forward to digging in and spending more time with it.

I took it to a local coin club meeting and had several club members show interest in buying one for themselves.

Mine came last week, but it's been a bit since I've had time to sit down with it. First impressions are it's fairly well bound (better than the Last "Coins & Collectors" And "All about Coins II" books, these are Stacks published, better quality for sure! THe photos and printing are top notch, with great photography. Haven't done much other than flip through it so far, but hope to sit down and read it over the next few evening before bed.
