I have this 1954 D nickel with a decimal point below the star separating Liberty and the date. I have heard that the mint has done something similar to this with dimes but on the obverse. It may be nothing at all but am hoping the experts will advise what, if anything is going on with this nickel.

Technically is called a "die dot". Some object has poked into the die face and has yet to be polished away.

Could be a die chip or dot. Overall appearance seems the coin may have spent some time around some heat source. Maybe some slag splatter.

Think I see two or three other dots (or crud) on the obverse side. In front of the forehead under the T in trust, below the IB in liberty and at the right side base of the bust. Thanks, Doug.

I'd say die dot seems most likely. It's value is still only one cent.
