can someone tell me the value of this coin and the history of it when was this used, its not in the greatest shape thanks for the help.

Coin is a "cob" (early New World spanish production) but the pictures are not good enough to tell you anything else. Can you photograph them in higher resolution and out of the 2 x 2. Not making any call on your coin, these are quite often fake. What does the coin weigh?

scott3270 - I concur with the first reply and would add that since it appears to have been mounted - the liklihood that it is NOT real is greatly increased.

thats no problem if it is fake I didnt buy the coin it was given to me by a familiy member what makes you think it was mounted

Hi Scott - the second scan - the one of the shield side has an orange or gold colored circle around the trace of what appears to be a pin near the center. Looks like it was a tie tack at one time. There were many jewelry cob copies that were used for cuff links and tie tacks. Some real coins in lower grades too, but many were cast copies.
