Hi all. New here and trying to figure out this strange dime. I know I've read the 1974 dimes aren't special and no major errors. This one caught my eye though. It has a finish like my actual s proofs but there's no mint marks. Pulled it from a roll yesterday.

Also has a weight of 2.4g per my scale...double checked calibration. All the "normal" dimes I measured as tests came out at 2.2...except the silvers at 2.5. There's also no noticeable copper visible even with a triplet from the edge/reeding.

Anyone ever spotted one of these?

Hopefully this pic shows up right...had to shrinking to fit.

I have an 82P same way, no clad sandwich, real shiny. It's been plated, why, you got me. Note where your letters hit the fields, rounded and mushy a bit? There is no anomaly for these, just "modified" by garage imps...

to the forum BTW!

With the amount of time between the end of silver dimes and this one, it would be nearly impossible for it to have been accidentally struck on a silver planchet (unless it was aided by a Mint employee).

Packinnova I also found a 1974 no mark proof looking dime 5 years ago. Kept it thinking it was a brand new dime due to it being so shinny until I saw the date.it also weighs 2.4 grams. Did you come up with a value amount?

Nope. Closest thing I found was other folks mentioning seeing them before and thinking they were plated by someone for some reason. I ended up dropping it a cheapo holder and dropping in my random drawer and forgot about it.

Tolerance range for a clad dime is +/- .091 grams so a high end within spec dime could weigh as much as 2.359 g which on a scale good to one decimal point would show as 2.4 grams Since the scale doesn't show 2.5 we know that the MOST overweight it could be, is <.1 grams which isn't off enough to command a premium.
