Is there a coin organization (pretend example: NCA National Coin Association) that hosts medium to large coin shows throughout the country? I'd love to finally get to one and check it out. I'm in the Chicago burbs so I'm sure there must be something somewhere nearby every month. I've Googled 'Chicago coin shows' and have seen a smattering of hits. I'd just like to make my first experience a good one.

Chicago has lots of shows. I've always had good luck at any of them.

On the second Sunday of every Month there is a coin show in a place called Countryside. It is South on Lagrange Road at about Joiliet Road, about 66th street. Usually about 70 to 90 dealers although has been a bit smaller lately.
On the 3rd Sunday of every Month there is a coin show in place called Itasca. It's in a Holiday Inn on Irving Park road just past the Itasca Police station on the South side of the road.
Then there is the one in Palatine. Not sure exactly where since I don't go to that one. Dealers have told me it is about the same as the one in Itasca. I just have to try it someday.
Now in February on the 15th to the 17th there is a large coin show in St.Charles, Il. at the Pheasant Run Resort. That is on a Thursday to Saturday. Not sure about any parking fees or entry fees at that one.
At the Countryside, Itasca and Palatine shows, Parking is free, entry is free. If you go the Countryside show, get there early if you want coffee and pastry. There is a guy that has them and only asks for a donation. Other than that, it's sort of free.
If you get to one early in the morning, I'll be there. Although they all say opens at 9AM, by that time the place is already packed with people. One dealer that is usually at all those shows is a guy name Griffith. Usually has about 3 to 4 tables. Rather expensive but sure has a lot of stuff.

Thanks Just Carl. Jbuck wasn't kidding that you'd have the 411 on this area. What time is early? 8:00? You'll know me because I look and dress just like 'The Most Interesting Man in the World' from the Dos Equis commercials.

- If you are into world coins or ancients there is an international show in downtown Chicago in April 18 - 25, at the Palmer House 17 E Monroe Street. There is a very large show, the Central States show, in Schaumburg, Schaumburg Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center, located at 1551 North Thoreau Drive, Schaumburg, IL 60173. April 25th - 28th.

I am having a difficult timing imagining that.

Now that is a bit to early. 8:30AM is about when I get there.
I like that due to many dealers are still setting up and gives me a chance to beat other dealers from buying good deals.
If your even thinking of that show at the Palmer House in April, be aware of the parking situation. Could cost more than the coins you would be buying. Although the address is Monroe st., there are entrances on State and also on Wabash. If your familiar with the transportation system, there are stations on both the elevated and subway systems near there. Not sure if you would be charged an entrance fee but from prices in the downtown area, also possibly more than the coins.
And I too am thinking about that show in Shaumburg in April.
