Just a stab in the dark XF40. Funny, just noticed the reverse wreath is what the Flying Eagle cent used.

No better than "fine details" due to a harsh cleaning and a horrific staple scratch above the date.

Hopefully, it is not a counterfeit. There are probably more counterfeit $3 gold pieces around than there are real ones!

That is a concern as well. I would like to get a consensus on the authenticity. I will take/post more pics if needed.

The first priority should be to authenticate it. Send it to PCGS/NGC/ANACS.

XF details, cleaned/scratched.

Unfortunately, it's not worth doing that and the person isn't going to let me ship it off. Going to have to see what you guys have to say. I have a dealer in AZ that might help me but he doesn't work on the weekends.
Rest in Peace

Authentic, VF 35, details, scratched, cleaned.

One of the three most common dates. Moderate value until NGC or PCGS to prove authentication, although it will still be detailed.

It looks genuine to me. The condition is not good but it's still worth a nice premium to melt value.
