@WBK, first welcome to CCF. Second, from your pics, it looks like this token only has 25c on both sides. Is that right? I think that I see some denicles. Are there any other markings that you can see? Also, any ideas for what metal it might be?

Thanks!, I don't know what kind of metal it is. It does have some green and black tarnishing. I can see a very faint 5 and maybe a oph? on it but its really worn and hard to see. It was deep in a dry creek bottom about a foot under a old spark plug I had dug that was about 8 inches under the hard sand. I had got a hit and dug up a spark plug from the late teens or 20s. Then after clearing the hole I hit it again with my detector and got this faint hit that turned out to be this coin another foot down. It is bent and does have denicles on one side. Very worn

 I would be willing to guess that it is from the early to mid 20th Century and made of bronze/brass. Unfortunately, being that deep doesn't help dating it when it is in a creek bed. A merchant token probably and the finer details (if any) are gone now. I haven't seen one exactly like it, but I haven't seen that many.

More than likely it is a generic saloon/bar/pool hall token with the large numbers on both sides. Brass/bronze you can always check here http://tokencatalog.com/display_rec...All+Listings for the local you found it in for any with the other lettering you think you see.

Thanks for the info. I'm having a hard time finding another one with the same 25c font but will investgate your leads. You guys are very knowledgeable and have already narrowed things down for me.

@zad23, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks like you have a similar token. Other than what @circus says above, I don't think that we have any additional information to give to you. There are over 1000 different tokens with the keyword "25¢" on tokencatalog.com.

@Zad23
Seeing as yours is in much better shape and seems quite similar, is there any other writing on it other than "25¢"?

 to the CCF I'd venture from its style that this maverick dates to the late 1800's. It was likely given out in change for a half dollar; this, from a vendor who provided a 25 cent service or product. The generic token would then more likely be tendered by a repeat customer. If unredeemed, there was no business named to be held accountable.

Brass trade simulator pay out token, From the old style gambling machines "trade simulator" some had only the amount on both sides or ¢ with the amount. Any were from 1900's to the 1950's. They didn't have automatic pay outs the clerk would give the award.
