I recently picked this coin up for $30 and this would be my first Chinese minor coin. I looked up this coin and it turns out it's quite a scarce type. On Heritage, I saw a whole variety of prices for this coin.

Thus, I was wondering your opinion on this coin's authenticity, and furthermore, towards the direction of getting this coin certified, its value if authentic. I like my coins raw, but is this coin a good candidate for grading?

30 dollars? That's a steal regardless of that tiny green spot! I think you are missing another zero at the back value wise.

In fact I think that's one coin that I tried to find and gave up a long time ago and went for a different denomination

Well done!

Wow a steal if it's genuine.

Well, it certainly looks to be struck rather than cast, so that's one point in favor of its being the real deal. The slightly clipped "P" may be the key diagnostic one way or the other. You might also check to see if such are being hawked by any of the Chinese websites notorious for "replicas" - that'd be worrisome.

If you're going to flip it through any major auction house, well then you'll be more or less compelled to certify it.
