I'm working on a CAPS album, Franklin half with proofs. My last purchase will complete the series except for the early proofs.

The last page has 11 holes available and I'd like to fill them with something. I have a couple of Kennedys there now, 1964 proof and 1964-D. There aren't enough open holes left to get all of the silver Kennedys (including proof and SMS), so that's out. It would make sense to get the 1964 business strike but that still leaves 8 holes. I could throw in types of the earlier halves, maybe some classic commemoratives...

How would you fill the holes?

I would fill it with silver Kennedy halves through 1970. 64 p&d 65, 66, 67, 68 d&s, 69 d&s, 70 d&s.
Rest in Peace

with muddler. OR, you could invest a little more time and study of the series and use the last 11 holes for varieties.

Hmmmm ... that's a puzzler for sure.

It takes 12 spaces for the Kennedys, if you include both the UNC and PRF 64 (13 if you add in the accented hair PRF). And why have Kennedys in a Franklin album?

MegaRed lists 9 die varieties (are there any more?), so if you went with that then you'd still have 2 spaces left, unless you keep the Kennedys in the album (and again why have Kennedys in a Franklin album).

From the single picture you posted, it looks like your collection is in high grades (UNCs and PRFs). What about filling those last 11 holes with a grading set with the same year/mm coin (getting the same year/mm might be a challenge)? You wouldn't be able to get all of the split grade levels, but there are 11 major grades (UNC, AU, XF, VF, F, VG, G, AG, F, P, and Ungradeable) that could fill those 11 holes.

I'm sure it will be a great set whatever you end up choosing to do!

The only Franklin variety I do know about is the two types of 1956 Proof, for which there is only one hole in the album (unlike the SBA album, which has holes for both types of 1979 and 1981 proofs, as well as the 1979 wide rim). From a quick search, I see that there are doubled dies out there. I don't have any DDs in my collection yet -- I want at least one, but I'd really want one that's appreciable to the naked eye. That will take some digging.

"Why have Kennedys in a Franklin album?" Mainly because there are extra holes that I want to fill with something. Kennedys are a natural continuation, at least 1964 (being the next year and the only 90% silvers for more than a decade). For the same reason, a 1947 Walking Liberty would be nice to have, to show what Franklin replaced.

In my Statehood Quarters CAPS album (silver proofs), I filled the 4 remaining holes with a 1932 (first year), 1964 (last silver circulated), 1976 (bicentennial reverse), and 1998 (last eagle reverse). The 1932 is the only business strike in the album, but it tells a reasonably complete story without going for a full Washington set from 1932-1998. That's the kind of effect I'd like to have, but doing that with 11 holes for halves is the challenge.
