Poll Question
I would have posted this in the grading forum, but that forum doesn't allow polls

Here are 3 Morgan dollars, all have been PCGS graded. The coins may be graded the same grade, or they may be different grades.

I'll make this easy and just ask for a rank order (highest to lowest grade) and not ask for an exact grade
How-Are-Your-Grading-Skills?
Care to give it a shot? What do you think?

I'll post the answer and the grades of the coins in a week.

(BTW only 1 of these coins is actually mine )

Good luck but this is an impossible task based on pics. You can't judge fine details and in hand impressions with coins like this.

I generally agree with you on this, .... but then again, there IS a whole sub-forum devoted to posting pictures and asking about grades

So, it seems to be something that folks like to do. It's meant to be fun and you can participate, or not, as you desire.

Same for me. Did you happen to click 1-3-2 by mistake? I thought it was from lowest to highest grade, but soon realized it wasn't after I clicked.

Sorry about that

I should have indicated the high and low ends in the choices to prevent this confusion. Live and learn. Won't make that mistake if I do another poll

very hard to tell without enlarged picture and even then, grading from pics is like buying an apartment based on word of mouth alone. Anyway I say 2 - 1 -3 with MS 65-66, 67-68, and 64-65.

I don't know if this is a trick question or not. The coins are definitely different grades (at least #2 is different), but the graders are wrong if all three graded the same.

It's not intended to be any kind of trick question. All of the photos are PCGS photos, all of the coins have been graded by PCGS, all of the coins may have the same or different grades.

The only thing that is "tricky" is grading from photos to begin with (as a couple of folks have pointed out). Plus, the 300 Kbyte limit on uploading photos makes the photos smaller. I suppose that I could have uploaded 3 separate photos and gotten a bit larger photos, but I thought that keeping them together would make it easier to compare the coins. Plus, this exercise is just that - a comparison exercise. If you want to try and guess what grade PCGS says these coins are then that's great, but all I'm asking is if you can tell the relative order that PCGS has graded these coins in.

Hope everyone is enjoying this. Frankly, the participation so far has exceeded what I expected

I was going to wait a bit longer before posting the answer to this one, but the vote count has been steady for awhile now and I'm SURE everyone is on pins and needles to see how they did

Like a couple of folks pointed out, it's VERY hard (impossible?) to grade a coin from a photo, so don't beat yourself up too much if you didn't agree with PCGS on these coins.

Not a single vote (except of course my own ) agreed with PCGS on these.

The correct order (at least according to PCGS) is ..... 2 and 3 are the same grade and both are higher than 1.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the poll! Hope you enjoyed it

-----------------

Coin 1 - AU58. This is the PCGS standard photo depicting that grade

Coin 2 - MS62. This one is mine. You can see the cert if you'd like. Most of you thought this was the highest grade coin. I thought MS63 when I submitted it, but it came back as MS62 due to, I'm guessing here, the weak strike. Before submitting it, I asked folks in this forum what they thought the grade was and the responses ranged from AU55 - MS63.

Coin 3 - MS62. This is the PCGS standard photo depicting that grade
