This to me looks like an S over D or vice versa..? Either that or some doubling of some kind, I don't see evidence of PMD that would distort the MM in this way...
Just damage to the mint mark. Also note the die scratches in the fields behind the mint mark. Checking on PCGS, there was an issue with a damaged punch that year. (note the example on coppercoins 1968S-1MM-002) That image shows the mint mark punch damage on that year that varied according to the age of the mint mark punch.
It is hard to tell with u'r pic's I also have one and under a microscope it is very clear I don't have a good camera avail now I will send some pics asap any idea the value's are in XF condition?
