Coin hunting 2 boxes of pennies today and came up with low date wheats and a few errors. Any thoughts on these errors?

Damaged, road-rashed and beat to death.

First one is damaged. Even with one nick in a coin, if it had been a collectable, it makes it a cull coin. Spendable unless you are saving them for copper melt.

Second example is a damaged coin also. Not the same way. The plating was split on the mint mark and the coin is now starting to experience zinc rot. Also a spendable coin. Sorry. Keep looking.

Shucks. New at collecting and looked up the 1992 and saw there is no reports on any errors like that so I got excited.
And thanks for explaining the damages. Like I said I'm new to collecting so this info helps me on my new hobby!
Thanks again.

This actually happens on several years during the 80's.

It happens less on the 1990 forward coins. But split plating is a striking issue with too much pressure.

Other areas affected on the reverse. The copper color is gone and you usually see gray on these area.

Rest in Peace
