I think I've got a new state DDR, with a possible FG variety. I have been wrong before. I did as good as I had time for on the pics. It has thickness in EPU, left dots and all outer devices. I was looking at the doubled dies for the year and this is consistent with the others. With one difference, the FG is doubled in most of them. So I looked closer at the FG on mine and it could be an 88! I've got some comparison photos in here, what do you guys think?!?

Well I see extra thickness, but it maybe from the coin flattened a bit. The devices are not showing any spread/notching. I just check the coppercoins site for DDR's on this year. I see none with a spread on the devices on the outside edge of the reverse. Most are located on the EPU, FG and the bar columns. The single strike dies don't show on the outer areas of the coins USA or ONE CENT. On the older dies, you find the DDRs on the outside edge of the devices, EPU and the FG and sometimes on the base of the building. So while this look wider on your coin, I don't feel it is from hub doubling. Variety Vista only lists one die. So save it for now. But not done checking on this issue to see if anyone lists a DDR on the single squeeze dies that are outside of the zone of the Central areas.

It is not a reverse of 1988 either. The end of the 'G' at the top ends exactly where the RDV-006 ends. The RDV-005 ends further east:

Location of the 'FG' is also the same as the RDV-006.

Thanks coop, I have another 89 similar to this one, so it could be relatively common for the year. But I haven't found an 89 without the flared G, any thoughts on that?

Well they wore out before the run was completed in 1988. So they started using the 006 early. So I'm thinking all the RDV-005 were tossed when they were finished with them in 1988. All the examples I've seen for the 1988, 1988-D RDV-006s are all fresher dies. So if you see a worn example, then it is probably a tired 005. I've not seen a worn 006 on a 1988 coin, yet....

Yea it's definitely not the 005 now that I compare the two, it could be a DDR. I'll hold onto it for now. (I get a bunch like this, get fed up with them after a while and spend them). Still fun to look at.

And for some reason I didn't read your whole post earlier coop or I wouldn't have needed to ask the FG question again. Thanks Coop
