Nice of him to do this but too bad he got burned. The vast majority of imperial Russian coins on
ebay are ugly, horrible, cast fakes. If you can't discern on pictures, a close inspection of the coin in hand will confirm forgery status.
I purchased a forgery of a Rouble some time ago (paid about $200 for it) with the sole purpose to cause the seller a headache as I was certain he knowingly and willingly sold forgeries (many forgeries sold in his history of sold coins). Upon receipt of the coin I filed a case with
ebay. The seller naturally objected and claimed authenticity. Then a detailed email explaining the reasons why this coin was a forgery made him change his position to "oh I didn't know, I'm not an expert" but he wasn't really keen on issuing a refund.
Long story short, after some hassle I got
ebay to force a refund because I was able to prove the coin I actually received was not the coin the was sold. There were many different marks, the toning was different, the shape was a bit different, etc. I'm guessing these guys have an assembly line where they just roll out this garbage from. Can you believe this... he didn't even send the correct forgery! The gall!
