I picked this Barber Half up last August for my Everyman 7070 19th Century Type Set, hoping to obtain an AU58 grade from NGC's MS61. PCGS gave her a MS62. I usually purchase the TrueView images, and this one is no exception. I noticed right away as the image was loading up, a potential TDO (Triple Die Obverse) within the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. There is also doubling on the olive and leaf the left rear of LIBERTY.

There is a DDO listed as a known variety, but not a TDO.

I just want to see what the forum members had to say about the potential TDO. Thank you for your interest and comments!

I'm no expert, so no opinion on the doubling, but congrats on the higher than expected grade!

Does appear to be tripled, especially visible at the top of the W.

I reached out to the BCCS to inquire about this potential variety, and it was verified (as much as you can with an image) that it is a TDO. From previous experience with PCGS, unless it is in the CPG, Barber variety coins would be designated "MINOR VARIETY", although...the Quarterly Special is Variety Attribution at $12 in addition to other fees like reholdering and return shipping.

I can certainly plainly see that tripled. Doesn't look a bit like MD either.

Imagine that. NGC =61, PCGS = 62. Not a rare occurrence.

David Lawrence used to have the Barber Reference books online, but I cannot find them anymore. Would anyone happen to have the "L-number" for the 1892 TDO?
