got this coin in the mail yesterday. it was listed as "damaged in packaging" so I took a chance on it for a couple of bucks.

to me it looks like an indent strike (barely) but I would like other opinions please! it does have a curvature that points to another coin striking it near the edge. what do you think?

2 things I like about it: it's still in the packaging and its from 2018. thanks in advance!

thanks for the replies. I think it looks to neat and perfect to be anything but another strike. I suppose it could still be damage before it was packaged but I don't think so.

Not an indent strike. This probably happened during packaging. Look at how the rim above the indent has been deformed inward. Indents usually do not deform elements in the coins they are struck into... because the anvil die would not allow it.

Also, if that was an indent strike, why only only a partial collar? Lastly, indent or not, I am amazed that the multi-ply plating here was not affected...

I would like to explore this coin further. I will see if I can get better pics through the packaging when I have time this weekend.

I am curious what could cause this damage after minting but before packaging. anyone have any thoughts on this?

Bulk bin doors could have pinched this coin when closing or opening

hello all. I have taken some more pics of this 2018 25 cents. in pic 1 and 2 you can see incused ridges of the reeded edge of another coin. you can also see verticle striations between the incused ridges in pic 2.

pic 3 shows the rim that is pushed in as SPP noted. you can see the stress between the denticles and the rim from the pressure.

pic 4 shows the "shelf" below where the damage is.

keep in mind that it is still mint sealed so it is not PMD but likely PSD as stated by SPP. I personally still like this coin even if it isn't an error coin. it can still be considered a packaging error don't you think?

I would still like to know what happened to it. it must have involved another coin with the incused reeding that is visable. all ideas and comments welcome. thanks in advance!
